Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a popular and breathtaking trek located in the Annapurna region of Nepal. From there, the trek starts at Nayapul and follows the trail along the Modi River, passing through villages and bamboo forests. As you ascend, you'll encounter the challenging stone staircase of Ulleri village before reaching Ghorepani, a popular rest stop.

One of the highlights of the trek is the early morning hike to Poon Hill, where you can witness a spectacular sunrise over the snow-covered peaks of the Annapurna range. The panoramic views of mountains such as Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre are truly awe-inspiring. After enjoying the sunrise, you'll head back to Ghorepani for breakfast before continuing on to Tadapani. The trail becomes more forgiving, and you'll pass through lush pastures and fields.

From Tadapani, the trek continues to Ghandruk, a large Gurung village known for its rich cultural heritage. Here, you can visit the Gurung Culture Museum and learn about the traditional way of life of the Gurung people. The trek concludes with a trek back to Naya Pool, followed by a drive back to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu.

Throughout the trek, you'll stay in comfortable tea houses or lodges, where you can enjoy meals and rest. The trek can be done during the best months of March to May and September to November, with May being the optimal time to witness the blooming rhododendrons.

The cost of the trek includes transportation, accommodation, meals during the trek, experienced guides and porters, necessary permits, and government taxes. However, it does not include accommodation and meals in Kathmandu and Pokhara, personal expenses, travel insurance, international airfare, and other items not mentioned in the package.

Itinerary

  1. Day 01 Arrival at Kathmandu.

    You will be welcomed by our staff standing with your name card at the airport arrival terminal and transferred to your hotel by vehicle. Your hotel is in the middle of the city. You will have nothing planned for the day, so take a rest and gather the energy to walk on the trails. Else, if you have some personal gears to buy, you can go shopping in the Market in the evening. There will be a small meeting about the trek in the evening. You will spend a night in a hotel.

  2. Day 02 Kathmandu | trek preparation, Permits Procedure

    After enjoying breakfast, you have the option to spend your day exploring the many famous sights around Kathmandu. The city has a unique charm in the early morning as it slowly comes to life, but still remains relatively peaceful. You can choose to have a free day or take advantage of our offer to provide a knowledgeable, English-speaking guide who can lead you to some of the most significant sites and explain their history.
    Optional day tours:
    We offer a variety of optional day tours to choose from, including the Sacred Sites of the Valley, a full-day excursion to visit Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath, and you can also visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Boudhanath, and see the world's largest spherical stupa, or explore the largest and most sacred Hindu temple in Nepal.
    For those who want to venture outside of the city, a 30-minute drive will take you to the ancient city of Bhaktapur, known for its medieval art and wood carving. You can also take a one-hour mountain flight to see Mount Everest or go for Day hiking around Kathmandu valley or mountain biking in the scenic Shivapuri National Park, located on the northern edge of the Kathmandu Valley.
    After your day's adventure, you'll return to your hotel in the early evening where you'll meet with our specialist or one of their staff members who will provide you with a detailed briefing of your upcoming trip, including what to expect and transportation logistics.

  3. Day 03 Kathmandu to Pokhara (Drive)

    Starting the day with an early breakfast at your hotel, we'll set off on our journey to Pokhara. The road out of the Kathmandu Valley winds its way down the valley wall, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, gorges, rivers, and villages that are unique to central Nepal.
    As we make our way towards Pokhara, we'll make a stop for lunch before heading towards the city. Our journey is made comfortable with the use of tourist buses, but if you prefer a more personalized experience, you may choose private vehicles or flights, which can be arranged at the time of booking.
    Upon arrival in Pokhara, we'll check into your hotel, and you'll have some time to explore the neighborhood. Take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque walkway by the lake, where you can find various interesting shops and restaurants. Don't forget to admire the stunning sight of Fishtail Mountain towering over the city.
    With the first day of your adventure now complete, you can unwind, relax and recharge for the exciting experiences that await you on the rest of your journey

  4. Day 04 Pokhara to Naya Pool (Drive) to Tikhe Dhunga

    Our trekking journey begins after a satisfying breakfast at your hotel. We'll take a short, scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, which serves as our starting point for the trek. From here, we'll embark on a short hike, cross a suspension bridge, and follow the banks of the Modi River. As we pass through the checkpoint at Birethanti, we'll continue through the village and follow the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. The trail leads us through a mesmerizing bamboo forest, where we'll encounter several streams and waterfalls. With some steady ascending, we'll reach the village of Tikhe Dhunga, while being treated to awe-inspiring views of the Annapurnas, Machhapuchhare, Dhaulagiri, and Hiunchuli along the way. These views will make the journey all the more worthwhile, and leave us excited for the rest of the trek.

  5. Day 05 Tikhe Dhunga to Ghorepani

    We kick off our trekking adventure with a hearty breakfast before we embark on our ascent. We will cross a breathtaking suspension bridge near Tikhe Dhunga and brace ourselves for the challenging hike ahead. Today's journey is not just a simple hike, but rather a climb with over 3,000 steps on a steep stone staircase leading up to Ulleri village. To prepare for this leg of the trek, it would be helpful to have trained by taking the stairs instead of the lift or elevator at home.
    As we ascend further, we leave the forest and cross pastures and fields, with picturesque views all around. After passing through the charming Banthanti village, we continue our journey to Ghorepani. This part of the trek offers plenty of opportunities to take in the stunning natural beauty of the area, including the panoramic views of the surrounding hills and mountains. So, don't forget to bring your camera!.

  6. Day 06 Ghorepani to Tadapani (Morning hike to Poon Hill)

    Rise and shine! We'll start our day early with a breathtaking hike to Poon Hill, where we'll witness the stunning landscape of the region at sunrise. As the sun paints the sky with brilliant colors, we'll have the opportunity to capture this incredible moment with our cameras. To keep warm in the chilly morning air, we can enjoy some hot tea before immersing ourselves in the spectacular view. From Hiuchuli to Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), the range of mountains visible includes Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, and many more.
    As hard as it may be, we'll eventually have to tear ourselves away from the awe-inspiring sight and return to our lodge in Ghorepani for a well-deserved breakfast. Once we've refuelled, we'll continue our journey towards Tadapani. The trail starts off steep, but once we cross the Deurali Pass, the path becomes much more forgiving. At the pass, we'll have another chance to take in the magnificent views of the mountains we saw from Poon Hill.

  7. Day 07 Tadapani to Ghandruk

    After enjoying breakfast in Tadapani, you will begin your trek towards Ghandruk, a picturesque village in the Annapurna region. The trail from Tadapani to Ghandruk takes you through the beautiful Baisi Kharka, also known as the Buffalo pasture. As you make your way through Baisi Kharka, you will have the opportunity to soak in the natural beauty of the surrounding landscapes. The trail winds through lush forests, offering glimpses of the diverse flora and fauna of the region. After some time of trekking, you will reach the village of Ghandruk, which is home to one of the largest Gurung communities in the area. The Gurungs are an ethnic group with their own unique culture and traditions. In Ghandruk, you can visit the Gurung Culture Museum, where you can learn more about their way of life, traditions, and history. It's a great chance to gain insight into the local culture and appreciate the richness of the Gurung heritage.
    Ghandruk itself is a charming village with traditional houses, narrow stone-paved streets, and terraced fields. The village offers stunning views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, providing a picturesque backdrop for your stay. You can spend some time exploring the village, interacting with the friendly locals, and enjoying the serene atmosphere. Ghandruk is also known for its breathtaking views of mountains like Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). The sight of these towering peaks against the clear blue sky is truly awe-inspiring and offers a memorable experience.
    You can choose to stay overnight in Ghandruk, either in a teahouse or a guesthouse, and immerse yourself in the warmth of the local hospitality. It's a great opportunity to relax, reflect on your trekking journey so far, and prepare for the remaining days ahead.

  8. Day 08 Ghandruk to Naya Pool to Pokhara (Drive)

    After savouring your final breakfast in Ghandruk, you will prepare for the last leg of your trekking journey. If the weather permits, you may be treated to a clear morning view of majestic mountains such as Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Annapurna III while enjoying your meal. Once you have finished breakfast, you will begin your trek, making your way through charming villages. The trek from Ghandruk to Naya Pool takes approximately 2 hours, allowing you to leisurely soak in the scenic surroundings and bid farewell to the mountains and the tranquil atmosphere of the trekking route. Upon reaching Naya Pool, you will have the option to take a bus or jeep for the return journey to Pokhara. The drive back to Pokhara typically takes around 2 hours, and you can relax and enjoy the picturesque landscapes during the ride.
    In the evening, as you arrive back in Pokhara, you will be greeted by the vibrant lights of the bars and restaurants in the city. You can choose to unwind and celebrate the successful completion of your trek by indulging in the lively atmosphere of the lakeside area. Take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside promenade, enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants, and bask in the beauty of Phewa Lake.
    Before retiring for the night, don't forget to glance up at the majestic Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre) one last time, appreciating its towering presence against the night sky.   9. Day 09 Pokhara to Kathmandu (Drive)

    Once you finish your breakfast, it's time to set off on your journey back to Kathmandu. You can choose to board a comfortable tourist bus, which we provide for this route, or have your private vehicle arranged to pick you up from your hotel. Alternatively, you may even opt for a flight to Kathmandu, depending on your preference and requirements. Please remember to inform us of your choice while booking your trip.

  10. Day 10 Final departure

    Breakfast at the hotel. Free & easy until the representative of our team will transfer you to the airport and Depart to your own country.
